What careers do you think youth should consider to make money in this challenging economy?

Great question Erin. Although outside my realm of expertise, and given that my crystal ball is a little cracked, I'll give you my two cents worth on this subject.

I firmly believe that adversity equals opportunity. Some of the greatest wealth and opportunities came from times such as the Great Depression, etc.

One must consider the technological advances of tomorrow - industries and jobs will exist in the next decade that I couldn't dream of today.

A short-term bet is to examine the demographics of the region the individual is planning to work in (i.e. lots of retirees - perhaps the financial industry, health care, etc.)

And at the end of the day, one must love what they do and explore their passions. Trite but always true.

My best advice, read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. A real treat!
